The District of Sooke’s Climate Action Plan brings you closer to home where you can enjoy more time with family and friends, share in a thriving local economy, and appreciate our natural environment and abundant wildlife.
By re-thinking how we move, what kind of buildings we live and work in, where our energy comes from and how we interact with each other and in our community, we can become richer than we ever thought possible.
Sooke is striving to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and 100% by 2050.
By inherently applying consideration for the environment, we will enhance the quality of life in Sooke – for generations to come. It will take all of us, working together, to reach this target.

On November 7, 2022, Mayor Maja Tait delivered her inaugural address for the 2022-2026 term of office.
In the room, she noted two empty chairs representing the unborn and the environment. Mayor Tait shared:
"You see here, in Chambers, we have two empty chairs.
"These have been placed here deliberately to symbolize those with no voices – the environment (the natural places that are home to the finned, feathered, four-legged and furry).
"The other is for our unborn children – the future generations.
"Let’s always be mindful in our decisions of whom is in Chambers with us and whom cannot be here and how our decision impact all of them together.
Mayor Tait also shared, "The Sooke 2030 Climate Action Plan provides a host of solutions to meet our emission reduction targets while exploring ideas to save residents time and money."
