ElectroRecyle BC Coming to Sooke for Small Applicance and Power Tool Recycling Event AT Evergreen Mall
ElectroRecycle BC is coming to Sooke this Sunday, October 22nd, 10am-2pm, at Evergreen Centre. Drop off your appliances for recycling and help divert such waste from the landfill!
ElectroRecycle BC accepts more than 400 types of small appliances and power tools at no cost, and their mobile unit coming to the Sooke’s Town Centre makes it that much easier to for you to recycle your small appliances and power tools.
ElectroRecycle’s mission is to divert as many electrical small appliances and power tools from landfill as possible. To find out more visit electrorecycle.ca
Rainwater Harvesting Information Session
Rainwater harvesting installer Ken Nentwig is doing a presentation at the JdF office on Butler Road, sponsored by the fledgling Otter Point Community Association. Ken is not only an experienced designer of systems and an installer but he is qualified to instruct plumbers to a level where they can become certified installers – but alas only in the US as Canada does not have a standard or certification system.

Community Clean Up - Meet at Broomhill Playground
Come together as stewards of Sooke as we tackle the removal of broom and other invasive species litter cleanup near Broomhill playground alongside the Friends of Sooke Parks Society, the Juan Fuca Community Trails Society, Sooke Broombusters and all interested volunteers.
Meet at the picnic shelter at 9:30 AM to enjoy a light refreshment, hot tea and coffee, and receive a safety orientation as community volunteers come together to make a difference. After 2.5 hours lunch will be provided for volunteers, alongside the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company!
Please dress for the weather and bring your own tools if you have them. Limited supplies of additional tools and safety gloves are available for community volunteers. Children are welcome, with parent/guardian supervision, to assist with the litter cleanup and smaller invasive plant species removal.
Sooke Celebrates Earth Day
Support local farmers, artisans, businesses and organizations while meeting new friends and neighbours in the community game zone! It’s all happening as Sooke celebrates Earth Day on Saturday, April 27 from 10 AM to 2 PM beside Fire Station One on Otter Point Road and alongside the Sooke Country Market
Features of the game zone include a bouncy castle, corn hole, connect four, colouring station and more. Get ready for a day filled with excitement as we bring together local businesses and organizations and forge new bonds within our wonderful community!

FireSmart Presentation at Sooke Municipal Hall
Nationally recognized wildland-urban fire expert Alan Westhaver will deliver a public presentation about how these disasters occur and practical steps homeowners can take to protect their homes. The event will take place at the Sooke Council Chambers, 2205 Otter Point Road, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, beginning at 7:00 PM.
Pineridge Park Community Clean Up

- What to Bring: Gloves, pruners (if possible)
- Refreshments: Warm beverages provided
Spooky Pumpkin Walk
Event Details:
- Date: Friday, November 1st, 2024
- Time: 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Location: Pineridge Park, entrance via the 6600 block of Rhodonite Drive or the path off Pineridge Place.
- Activities: Drop off your pre-carved pumpkins anytime after 1:00 p.m. on November 1st, and LED lights will be provided to illuminate them for the evening. Walk the festively lit trails after 5:00 p.m. and enjoy a free cup of hot chocolate.
- Post-event: All pumpkins will be composted after the event to ensure environmentally friendly disposal.
Free Workshop: Planning Your Year-Round Veggie Garden
"Planning Your Year-Round Veggie Garden," this workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The session will provide practical insights into how to sow, transition crops, care for soil, and protect crops during the winter months—helping gardeners enjoy fresh produce throughout the year.
