New Accessibility Equipment Coming to Woodland Creek Playground

New accessible playground equipment is being installed at Woodland Creek Park, January 2025: adaptive swing and wheelchair-accessible spinner.

The District of Sooke is excited to announce the upcoming installation of new inclusive play equipment at Woodland Creek Playground, located at 6523 Callumwood Lane! Designed for children aged 2-7, this addition will create more play opportunities for children of all abilities.

The new equipment includes two features designed to promote inclusive play, including:

  • Adaptive Swings: Allowing children of varying abilities to swing together, promoting both interaction and shared play experiences.
  • Wheelchair-Accessible Spinner: Providing an inclusive spinning experience, where children with mobility challenges can actively participate alongside their peers.

These installations represent a positive step forward in the District’s commitment to ensuring that public spaces are welcoming and accessible to all members of the community.

“We are thrilled to be adding this accessible equipment to Woodland Creek Playground,” says Mayor Maja Tait. “Play is such an important part of childhood development, and these new features will ensure that every child can enjoy our playgrounds.”

The installation will begin on Wednesday, January 8th, and is anticipated to be completed within a week. The playground will remain open during construction; however, the public is asked to please be mindful of the crews and safety fencing in the area.

The District invites residents and visitors to enjoy the upgraded playground once the equipment is installed and looks forward to seeing children of all abilities play together in a safe and inclusive environment.
